New Clay County office expands access to specialized eye care for Fleming Island, Orange Park and surrounding communities
FLEMING ISLAND, Fla. – Florida Eye Specialists, Northeast Florida’s largest multi-specialty ophthalmology practice, will open its new Fleming Island location on September 8, 2026. The office is located at 1540 Business Center Drive, Suite A, Fleming Island, FL 32003.
Conveniently located near State Road 220, the new office will bring comprehensive eye care closer to patients throughout Fleming Island, Orange Park and the surrounding Clay County communities. Services will include general ophthalmology and specialized care for cataracts, glaucoma and dry eye.

Mark D. Paauw, M.D., joins Florida Eye Specialists as the primary ophthalmologist at the Fleming Island office. A fellowship-trained cataract and glaucoma specialist, Dr. Paauw provides medical and surgical glaucoma care, including minimally invasive glaucoma surgery and tube shunt procedures, as well as cataract surgery. His addition expands access to advanced treatment options for patients in Fleming Island and throughout Clay County.
Dr. Paauw earned his medical degree from Michigan State University College of Human Medicine. He completed a transitional-year internship at Spectrum Health Hospital, an ophthalmology residency at the Kresge Eye Institute of Wayne State University and advanced glaucoma fellowship training at Florida Eye Specialists.
His clinical interests include minimally invasive glaucoma surgery, tube shunt procedures and cataract surgery. Dr. Paauw has also contributed to glaucoma research, including the paper “Glaucoma Surgery Shifts Among Medicare Beneficiaries After 2022 Reimbursement Changes,” published in the Journal of Glaucoma and presented at the American Academy of Ophthalmology.

Dr. Paauw’s interest in ophthalmology was inspired in part by a medical service trip to Haiti, where he saw firsthand how eye surgery could transform patients’ lives. That experience reinforced his commitment to serving others through ophthalmology locally and through global medical outreach.
