Blepharoplasty? What’s that?

Young Woman Pointing at Her Eye | Florida Eye Specialists

Blepharoplasty is surgery to repair droopy eyelids that may involve removing excess skin, muscle and fat. The more you age, your eyelids stretch and the muscles that support them weaken.  Excess fat may gather above and below your eyelids, causing the eyebrows to sag, droopiness occurs in the upper lid and bags under your eyes form.

Removing excess tissue from your upper, lower or both eyelids can improve your vision and make your eyes appear younger and more alert. Blepharoplasty may be an option for you if you have:

  • Baggy or droopy upper eyelids
  • Excess skin of the upper eyelids that interferes with your peripheral vision
  • Droopy lower eyelids, which may cause white to show below the colored part of the eye (iris)
  • Excess skin on the lower eyelids
  • Bags under your eyes
