Jerry Maida, MD is a world-renowned eye surgeon and ophthalmologist who is dedicated to helping patients in Northeast Florida live fuller lives. He is one of the foremost experts on LASIK surgery in the area and a leading authority on performing refractive surgery.
Decades of experience with innovative surgical techniques
Dr. Maida has dedicated most of his life to the study and practice of medicine. He earned his medical degree from Rutgers New Jersey Medical School. Soon after, he was awarded a fellowship from the school which allowed him to work as a medical missionary in Tanzania, studying and treating tropical diseases. Following this experience, Dr. Maida served as a Naval Flight Surgeon and pilot in the U.S. Navy. Upon completing his military service, he finished his residency at the Willis Eye Hospital in Philadelphia, PA.
Since that time, Dr. Maida has been at the forefront of many innovative moments in eye care in Florida. In 1989, he became the first doctor in Florida to use the Summit Excimer Laser, and was the sixth in the country to use this procedure. He has also participated in FDA clinical trials. In 2002, he became the only eye surgeon in the Jacksonville area to offer conductive keratoplasty, or CK. To date, Dr. Maida has performed over 37,000 eye surgeries in his career, helping patients improve their eye health through innovative medicine.
LASIK Pioneer
Dr. Maida is also is a leading expert on LASIK surgery in the country. He was the very first surgeon in Northeast Florida to perform the LASIK procedure back in 1996, and he has since completed over 22,000 LASIK procedures throughout his practice. Recognizing his contributions to LASIK surgery, Summit Technology granted Dr. Maida membership into the exclusive Summit Apex Plus Society in 1999, a membership given to only 20 leading ophthalmologists.
