At Florida Eye Specialists, we are always excited to add new members to our fantastic team of doctors. We are honored to introduce the newest addition to our family, Dr. Ashley Cowart. Dr. Cowart is an experienced professional in the field of ophthalmology with a passion for her work.
Background
While growing up wearing contact lenses to help her vision as a competitive tennis player, Dr. Cowart became a frequent patient of her local optometrist. She became increasingly interested in the field of optometry with each visit and started asking her optometrist questions about becoming one herself.
After high school, she left her hometown of Savannah, Georgia to attend Auburn University. While here, she not only obtained her undergraduate degree but she also played on the Tiger’s tennis team. She studied Optometry at the University of Alabama Birmingham and later went to Braverman Eye Center in south Florida for her residency in ocular disease.
Job Experience
Soon after, Dr. Cowart joined the University of Florida Department of Ophthalmology. Before joining Florida Eye Specialists, Dr. Cowart worked for the Mayo Clinic Health System in Georgia.
Dr. Cowart loves what she does. Her favorite aspect of her job is problem-solving. When a patient comes in with a problem, she enjoys being able to help them in any way she can. Another part of her job she likes is the gratification in helping improve her patients’ lives.
Dr. Cowart is thrilled to be joining Florida Eye Specialists’ growing team of top providers in the ophthalmology field. She values their mission of providing team-based care and looks forward to helping patients. Her role at Florida Eye Specialists will include seeing emergency and hospital patients. Florida Eye Specialists is a provider of emergency eye care for the Baptist Health System.
Interests
When she is not working with patients, Dr. Cowart enjoys playing tennis. In the past, she worked with the MaliVai Washington Foundation, where she taught underprivileged children to play tennis. She recently moved to Jacksonville and is looking forward to getting involved in local charitable work again. Dr. Cowart also loves going to the beach and playing with her dog.
