Dr. Ravi Patel of Florida Eye Specialist performed a pro-bono cataract surgery for a local welder who was going to lose his job due to his affected vision. This was an unfortunate case in which a hard worker fell through the cracks of insurance coverage. Florida Eye Specialists stepped up to the plate and took care of the welder’s poor vision.
Welding, without the proper precautions can be a dangerous occupation. Despite the reduced risk with the use of protective equipment, the electric arc during welding exposes the eyes to bright artificial ultraviolet rays, which can cause great damage to the eyes. Fine motor skills and attention to detail are essential to welding, all of which require healthy vision.
