Nathaniel Rieveschl, M.D., is an ophthalmologist specializing in cornea and external diseases. He is dedicated to providing high-quality, compassionate care, striving to connect with each patient and enhance their lives through effective vision correction and personalized treatment.

Dr. Rieveschl’s expertise includes medical and surgical management of conditions affecting the cornea and anterior segment of the eye. These specialties include comprehensive eye care, cataracts, dry eye, blepharitis, corneal edema, infectious diseases of the cornea, corneal scarring, and ocular trauma. He also treats corneal dystrophies, including Fuchs and anterior basement membrane dystrophy, and complex disorders of the ocular surface, such as Sjogren syndrome and neurotrophic keratopathy. 

Dr. Rieveschl graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a degree in Biology. In 2019, he earned his medical degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and completed his ophthalmology residency at Louisiana State University Health in 2023. Following his residency, he pursued a fellowship in cornea and external diseases at the University of Florida, which he completed in 2024.

Throughout Dr. Rieveschl’s education and career, his involvement in research has kept him at the forefront of the latest developments in the field. Dr. Rieveschl has authored several publications and editorials in his field and received the James M. Hill, Ph.D. Award for Excellence in Ophthalmology Research, awarded for the best resident research project two years in a row. 

Dr. Rieveschl regularly attends conferences and engages with professional organizations such as the American Academy of Ophthalmology to stay updated on the most effective, evidence-based practices. He earned the Academic Achievement Award for three consecutive years during his residency, recognizing his performance in the Ophthalmology Knowledge Assessment Program Test (OKAP), where he consistently scored in the 90th percentile.

Dr. Rieveschl’s inspiration to pursue this career was sparked during medical school when he observed the profound positive impact of cataract surgery. This experience solidified his commitment to enhancing patients’ lives through vision correction. He was drawn to the field of cornea and external diseases because it is both broad and complex, encompassing a diverse array of pathologies and intricate procedures such as corneal transplants and refractive surgery. The potential for vision restoration through advanced treatments, coupled with ongoing technological innovations, makes this specialty particularly dynamic and rewarding to him. To Dr. Rieveschl, ophthalmology represents the ideal combination of delicate surgical techniques, clinical problem-solving, cutting-edge technology, and meaningful patient interactions. 

Originally from New Orleans, Dr. Rieveschl and his wife have come to love the Southeast coast and enjoy spending time together outdoors. He enjoys staying active by playing tennis, exercising, traveling, and hiking as well as spending time with family.
